First start

The Windows build is not code-signed yet. Route Map has applied to SignPath Foundation, which signs open-source projects for free; until then Windows warns on first start.

  1. Extract the zip. Open the Route Map folder and run routemap.exe.
  2. If SmartScreen shows Windows protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. If Microsoft Defender removes the file, check its SHA-256 against the signed list below, then see troubleshooting.

macOS: the app is not notarised, so Gatekeeper blocks the first start.

  1. Open the .dmg and drag Route Map to Applications.
  2. In Applications, right-click Route Map, choose Open, then Open again.
  3. On macOS 15 and later, if there is no Open button: try to open it once, then System Settings, Privacy & Security, and Open Anyway next to the message about Route Map.

Or in Terminal: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Route Map.app".

Linux: chmod +x routemap-*-linux-x86_64.AppImage and run it, or unpack the .tar.gz and run ./routemap. Tracing needs a trace tool: sudo apt install traceroute (Debian, Ubuntu), sudo dnf install traceroute (Fedora), sudo pacman -S traceroute (Arch); mtr is optional and adds per-hop loss.

Windows: keep the Route Map folder together. routemap.exe never opens a console; routemap-cli.exe beside it is the command line.

Verify a download

Every release has SHA256SUMS and its detached GPG signature SHA256SUMS.asc, made with the release key release-key.asc:
